The CutFoodWaste network

In 2018 Matvett invited various actors working to reduce food waste in Norway to join forces in their common goal by creating “The Cut food waste network”. The actors consist of different types of businesses, interest organizations and advocacy groups that all work to prevent and reduce food waste, either directly by saving surplus food or indirectly through developing tools and services for businesses, government agencies and consumers, as well as inspiring efforts to bring in more people to reduce their food waste.

Current members include Too Good To Go, Matsentralen, Spisoppmaten, Framtiden i våre hender, TotalCtrl, Kompass and Foodlist . Each of these actors has good knowledge about causes and solutions to prevent and reduce food waste throughout the value chain, and together they seek to influence changes and inspire increased efforts, both within and across sectors, for a Norway without food waste.

In 2020 the network entered a formal agreement to work together on selected activities to set focus on food waste. Some of the activities include developing a common discourse, strengthening internal knowledge and promoting food waste reduction through joint campaigns. In addition, the last few years the network participated in organizing the “Cut food waste festival and weeks” coordinated by Matvett.

The network’s goal is to work towards the elimination for food waste in Norway and to coordinate efforts in order for Norway to meet the UN Sustainable Development Goal 12.3 and the commitments in the Norwegian Negotiated Agreement on Reduction of Food Waste between the Norwegian Government and the Norwegian Food Industry dated 23 June 2017
